  Chapter 1

The sky above us appears crimson and violet with coral hues peeking through. There is no sun here in Meropis. All of us glance at each other, and wave goodbye. Rosalie, Ember, and I could easily pass for sisters, except they are tanner than I am. For height and appearances, we all have similar tastes in men.

My focus zeroes in on Christian, and he is standing there with his arms crossed next to his slate Lamborghini, appearing perfectly relaxed. He smiles, as he waits patiently for me to join him. Ian and Zane already took my car home a few minutes ago.

Over a year ago, all of this was originally thought as an impossibility. My dream man casually steps over to the door, and he gestures for me join him. For once in my life, I no longer feel alone. For once, I actually have a boyfriend who at one time was an ancient Greek prince. His long, platinum-blonde hair, with ultramarine eyes—astounds me.

His brother, Alexander also has long platinum-blonde hair. But, the tips of his hair are jet-black. Both of them are equally at least six feet tall. Their eyes are also the same hue of ultramarine. Both brothers are fit, but Christian has more muscles than his brother does. Alexander is lean and muscular. He was born in both the mortal and vampire worlds before Christian was. Christian is a little more temperamental than his brother is. He tends to carry a large jealous bone. Both brothers are equally competitive when it comes to sports.

My mind refocuses on his beautiful Greek face. He is the one who I am madly in love with. We have walked a tough road just to get to this point.

The weather changes from a sauna to a delicate breeze. The first day of Meropis College goes off without a hitch. Many things have changed over the past year—to now. My body has changed drastically over the past year. I am no longer a hefty weight. My body is firm and agile. To me, it is a complete turnaround. Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined being this slender. Another vast improvement is no more fear towards my own shadow. There is more self-confidence in myself, especially since making new friends with Rosalie, Ember, and Tanya.

The last couple of months were rocky between us. He was finally able to breakthrough to me. He unleashed my frustrations, anger, and sadness. Who knew vampire therapy is the ‘in’ thing these days? It does seem like a corny thing to do as vampires. Well… for now, I am still a vampire hybrid. At least my fangs are able to retract into my gums now. My teeth no longer have these half-in—or half-out fangs anymore. Because of Christian and the ingestion of his blood, my fangs finally descended.

I slid in next to him in his car. Christian is not in his casual attire from earlier this afternoon. He appears nervous about something, because he is constantly shooting me signals through his blood. We have this connection through our blood bond in which we have created together. I focus intently on his perfectly chiseled face. There is a long silence for his answer to the sudden case of nerves. His speed is up, as he drives erratically around the traffic. He passes a long line of cars at a high rate of speed. He normally drives much slower than this. My attention focuses to Rosalie and Joey who remain straight on the interstate. Gabriel takes a completely different route. My boyfriend maneuvers around all the tight s-curves with ease. We are back in front of the castle in which he co-owns with his identical twin brother, Alexander. I focus on him intently. Right now, he wears a ruby silk dress shirt, an ebony tie, with a pair of ebony dress slacks. A sports coat drapes over his seat. His hands grip the steering wheel so tightly. I wonder if he will rip it off. He is definitely nervous about something. It must be about one of his businesses again. I summon up the courage and ask him, “What is wrong?”

He mutes the stereo, and he glances over at me, “You need to go into my room and change. I made reservations for tonight, and we have precisely one hour to make it there. If you mind, please hurry.”

I try to read his expression, but his vision shifts around the car nervously. He pulls past the large ivory with gold gates. He zooms down the driveway, and around the grotesque water fountain. The water fountain is a woman with blood pouring from her neck, wrists, and thighs. The Enforcers have a macabre sense of humor. He finally parks his Lamborghini in front of the castle. His impatience is a little irritating today. He even gestures with his hand for me to hurry up. I open my door, and step out of his vehicle. I leisurely pick up my laptop, and my school bag while walking inside the front doors of his castle.

Tony the butler greets me, “Good afternoon, Princess.”

  “Hi, Tony.”

The butler smiles at me sweetly, but my attention turns to a man who is walking towards me. Some people in this world have issues with the strange man walking over to greet me. He holds out his hands to take my things. Ian McGregor still has a large neon-blue Mohawk in the middle of his head. He is a couple inches taller than I am, and he is physically fit with angular facial features. The difference is that he has facial rings all over his face now. Ian has piercings in his nose, mouth, chin, eyebrows, ears, tongue, and if he takes his shirt off, he has nipple rings, and belly button rings. He has tattoos from his neck down to his feet. Both of his arms are covered in tattoo sleeves from all his rogue kills, and other strange tattoos. If you are fortunate, he will take his shades off to reveal his icy-blues.

Ian has stubble on his face. When he has stubble, it usually means his relationship ended—or it means that he is deep in his work again. He just received additional tattoos on his knuckles.

Nobody would ever be able to tell that he is extremely wealthy by his appearance, but he is the proud owner of the porn industry for all supernatural creatures. You would never know he is filthy rich by the way he dresses. I have only see
n him clean up nicely a few times. He never changes his Mohawk either. He prefers baggy charcoal carpenter shorts which goes to his calves—or he wears a pair of charcoal basketball shorts. He will wear the occasional basketball jersey—or tank.

Today he sports the charcoal basketball shorts with a forest tank. He wears a pair of skater shoes, with no socks. It annoys me, but he leaves his shoes untied and loose. He keeps his charcoal holster on him with his guns loaded.

All the Enforcers usually wear a holster on them with guns, and live rounds. Their guns are either onyx or gold. The bullets in which they use are wooden, just in case rogues show up unexpectedly. The rogues are no longer a huge threat since Reno died. I was the lucky individual who administered Reno his ‘final death’ by stabbing him in his heart with a gold dagger.

I believe my sister Ava will remain with Julius, since she is now his wife. Julius Khan wants all hybrids vanquished from the face of the planet, and anybody who aids hybrids. He is currently the second oldest vampire in the world, and the most ruthless of all vampires. He has a disdain for any vampire who, “fucks their food,” as he puts it. In his opinion, mortals are only here as a main food source. Luckily, for us, my Great-Grandfather Saber Denali is the oldest vampire in the world, and he is the king of all vampires. Since he is king, Julius is unable to do shit. Oddly enough, Julius remains exceptionally quiet as of late.

I went from loving my sister, to hating her. She was the one who kicked me in the stomach multiple times only to cause me to lose Christian’s baby. I blame her for the unbearable pain she caused us. If I ever see her again, I will have to take her down. As far as I know, Ava and her slimy husband are on the run.

Ian greets me with his goofy smile, and he takes my things from me, “I will put your bags in the library. Go and change, because Chris is in a hurry, chick.”

I quickly storm up the ivory with gold staircase. Each step has golden Greek symbols embedded in them. I quickly storm past the left corridor in the enormous hallway. I make it inside his room in record time. Inside his room, there is a charcoal dress bag waiting for me. I close the doors quickly, and I rapidly strip out of my crimson minidress. Inside this dress bag, there is another crimson dress with gold trimming on the top and bottom of it. My dresses are always strapless and sleeveless. This dress bag comes from Sean Fierce, and he is the local fashion designer to all vampires. As I change into another beautiful dress, Sophia walks in just in time to zip me up. She is the maid here, but she is the one who remains behind the scenes to make sure every detail is perfect. She hands me a shoebox, and this box contains another set of heels, which match this dress. Christian needs another lecture about buying me things once again. His constant gift giving is beyond frustrating. She surprises me by giving me a hug and a peck on the cheek.

She completely takes me off guard by her gesture until she smiles at me, “I want to wish you good luck tonight, Princess.”

I cock my head to the side with an unusual expression of confusion on my face. She quickly disappears before I could ask her why.

After fidgeting in front of the mirror for a few minutes, I chose to leave my hair down. To add more time, I take another pregnancy test just to see if we are expecting again. I pray for our miracle to return.

Feather has not visited me in my dreams lately.

A knock on the door interrupts my thoughts, “Chris is waiting for you impatiently in the library,” Willow shouts.

“I am almost done! Why is he being so pushy tonight?” I yelled back.

“I have no idea, but if you take any longer, he will come and get you himself,” she shouts.

To my bitter disappointment, the pregnancy test reads another negative. My heart wants Feather to return to us so bad. I try to fight off the tears, as I throw the test in the trashcan. A few droplets drip from my cheeks, and I found a tissue to wipe the tears away.

Willow greets me at the door with my tiara in her hand. She pins the tiara on my head for me. Willow is Charlie’s only daughter. Charles Black—or Charlie, as he likes to be called by is one of the BIB Enforcers. She escorts me to the enormous library. There are bookshelves on top of bookshelves with floor to ceiling windows. My boyfriend currently talks to the other eleven men about security details and other issues with rogues.

Rogues are supernatural creatures who oppose all authority. Most of the time, rogues are newborn vampires Khan created to try, and take out all the Enforcers from each supernatural group.

Willow shoves me forward, “Your Princess is ready for you, Chris.”

Christian stops talking to the Enforcers, and he glances over his right shoulder with his perfect smile. He lifts each pant leg, and sheathes his guns underneath them. He has learned from our previous dates never to leave home without his guns. Ian whistles at me. Christian gives him a dirty look. Ian quickly shifts his gaze to the floor, as he smiles.

Christian struts over to me, “Are you ready?”

I nod yes. He holds out his arm for me. My cell phone instantly lit up, and Rosalie’s name flashes across the screen.

“Did you already make a new friend?” Christian chuckles at me.

“Hi Rosalie… what can I do for you?” I nonchalantly answer my phone.

“I am so glad you gave me the right phone number! I have to wish you good luck tonight, and I will see you at school tomorrow!” Rosalie is practically shouting her enthusiasm in my ear.

We return to his car, and he sped off in seconds. My attention focuses on his face to try, and decipher what he is up to now, “That sounds odd… you are the third person who is wishing me good luck tonight. What is going on? Everyone is beginning to scare me.”

“I have some last minute details to finish with my second wedding. Oh, by the way… do you want to be a bridesmaid? I seem to have miscalculated, and there is an extra bridesmaid dress with your name on it.”

His face is hard as stone, and he focuses on the road in front of us. His feelings are incomprehensible at this time. She receives my answer, as I wonder how he will respond, “I guess it will be okay, and I don’t have anything else planned. Actually, it would be an honor to be your bridesmaid. Way to change the subject too,” I agree, and then I accused her.

“I didn’t change the subject! I am simply calling to wish my new best friend good luck tonight. I am so excited, and I can no longer wait for this wedding nonsense to be over with.” I can tell by the tone of her voice that she is excited.

I can also hear Joey groan in the background, as he tries to grab her attention. I make it known to her, “Your husband wants your undivided attention, Rosalie. I will respectfully let your husband steal you away. I will see you at school tomorrow.”

“Alright Joey! Men! They can be so damn impatient at times! I will let you go Jeannie, and good luck!” Rosalie snaps at her husband.

She abruptly ends her conversation before I could even respond to her. I stow my cell phone away in the clutch purse. He continues to drive. We are back on the interstate in minutes.

He shifts his gears, “How was your first day of college?”

I eye him suspiciously, “It was boring, but the girls made it fun.”

He gazes at me with amusement, “Why does this revelation not surprise me?”

“I love them, and all of them are so funny. We were equally annoyed with a couple of professors, but overall, today was okay,” I complimented the girls.

Christian pulls into the vacant parking lot of one of his clubs. “Empire” is his baby of all his nightclubs. I struggle to understand why he is rushing me, since he is the owner. He spent a fortune into making this a successful nightclub. We park in the VIP spot with an attendant opening my door for me. He ushers us through the back doors, and he escorts us to one of his private rooms. The room décor is crimson velvet with cherry wood. My senses have drastically improved since my fangs are able to descend. My boyfriend motions for me to sit on his scarlet velvet Chaise lounge. Christian immediately presses his lips on mine passionately, and I en
joy it.

He applies the brakes without warning, “We need to save this for later. You have to take a drink.”

He hands me a glass of thick alcoholic blood. He keeps up with my fangs better than I do for the most part. I wait for him to pour himself a glass. He fiddles nervously with his tie. This could either go one of two ways. I begin to ponder those ‘bad’ thoughts. I have only seen him do this when he is in conference calls. He is stressing out about something. I was okay until his nerves course through my blood. We have this life-long blood bond, and we can feel what the other feels. This is from exchanging blood on numerous occasions. At times, we have used it, as our own little lie detector test. His sudden burst of emotions worries me, and he knows it. He swigs a glass of thick blood alcohol. He was able to merge synthetic blood with alcohol.

  “What is going on, Chris?”

He shifts his vision a few times towards the door.

I panic with his refusal to answer, “What is going on? Why are you sending me a case of nerves?”

He smiles at me oddly, and gestures for me to stay, “You have to wait right here for just a minute.”

He left me in the room by myself. Now something is really off with him. Normally, he never leaves me alone without at least one Enforcer guarding me. I shook my head from his sudden distraction. Annoyingly, my phone rings, but Christian returns with the waiter.

After I realize who is calling me, I let out a loud groan. “You must hold off on that phone call for just a minute, Jeannie,” he orders.

I complain knowing who it is, and I don’t want him to send out reinforcements, “You know how he gets, if I don’t answer his call. I have to take this!” Ever since I returned to the castle, Papa calls me every single day.

Christian jerks my cell from my hand, and he bends down to one knee, “You can call him later! Just… please hold off for a minute!”

I am not in the mood. This pesky waiter keeps shoving a covered plate at me, “No thanks… I am not hungry right now.”
